The majority of Thai citizens voted in support of the draft constitution. The Election Commission revealed in the unofficial results of Thailand’s charter referendum, that voters have voted to accept the draft constitution by approximately 61% or more than 15 million votes.
In addition, approximately 58% voted in favor of the additional question which proposes that the appointed Senate be involved in selecting a prime minister during the first five years.
The official result will be released on Wednesday 10th August. The vote paves the way for a general election which is scheduled to be held in 2017 in keeping with the current government’s reform road map.
