Sports education to be introduced to schools nationwide

BANGKOK, 9 August 2016 (NNT) – Sports education will be included in schools nationwide to encourage Thai students to be more athletic.

Education Minister General Dapong Rattanasuwan has signed an agreement with Sports and Tourism Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul in their joint effort to promote athletics among Thai youths.

The initiative will enable youths to pursue their interests in sports careers and compete in international events. Students will also get to learn about nutrition, sportsmanship, sports science and psychology, as well as other related skills.

In the initial phase of the sports program, football and volleyball classes will be offered to high school students at Sukhothai Wittayakom School in Sukhothai province, Sarakham Pittayakom School in Maha Sarakham province, and Kanchanapisek Wittayalai School in Krabi province.

Tuition fees will be waived for students who wish to join the program. According to the Ministry of Education, each student will receive financial aid of 40,000 baht per year until they graduate.
