Phuket International Airport General Manager Monrudee Gettuphan has said regarding the readiness of the airport’s new international passenger terminal, that Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha will preside over the terminal’s opening ceremony on 16 September 2016.
She explained that the new terminal’s construction was part of the development plan during 2010-2014, to accommodate the increased air traffic, and the strategy to push Phuket International Airport as a Gateway to the Andaman. Annual passenger capacity at the airport will be doubled to 12.5 million, consisting of 5 million domestic passengers and 7.5 million international passengers. Phuket International Airport currently has an annual passenger capacity of 6.5 million passengers.
The airport general manager has disclosed that the terminal is now 100 percent ready for service.
Phuket International Airport’s new international terminal uses the unique wave-like structure design for its exterior, while the Chino-Portuguese design was a key theme for the building interior, which also employs traditional design patterns found in Phuket.
