Phu Rua Christmas Festival until 31 January 2017

The local authority of Phu Rua district in Loei province in cooperation the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Loei Office is organising the 5th Phu Rua Christmas Festival to encourage tourists to visit Thailand’s largest Christmas tree plantations which are at their most magnificent during the cool season. The festival will run until 31 January 2017.

The planting of the Phu Rua plantation was inspired by the royal initiative of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej who convinced locals to change from shifting cultivation to harvest cold-climate plants. Phu Rua local people took the initiative to cultivate several cold-climate plants, including the successful and picturesque Christmas trees. Today, the district of Phu Rua is Thailand’s largest area for Christmas trees plantation and profits from the sale of the trees reaches over 220 million Baht each year.

At this time of the year, more than 100,000 Christmas trees will are being grown covering more than 5-rai areas and visitors are welcome to Phu Rua district to see them. Activities during the event also include booths selling local products, food and beverages and photo opportunities. In the evening, from 17:00 – 21:00 Hrs., there will be a walking street where tourists can stroll for shopping or simply chill out in the cold climate.
