New express trains to service four major routes in Thailand

New express trains are being put into service on four routes with new facilities on board. The new service is expected to attract more than 1 million people and generate 1,250 million baht per year.

SRT Governor Wutthichart Kalayanamitr this week rang the bell at Bangkok Railway Station at a ceremony to launch the express train on the first two routes, commuting between Bangkok-Chiang Mai and Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani.

The new carriages are equipped with facilities such as CCTV, power outlets and special toilets designed for the disabled. When the dual railway system is completed, the train will be able to reach its maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour and will arrive at its destination three hours sooner than usual.

The other two service routes are to Nong Khai and Hat Yai and will be available to travelers next month, starting on 2nd December 2016.
