Central Bangkok lights up for the festive season

Bangkok’s central shopping districts along Sukhumvit Road and around Ratchahprasong intersection have been lit up with festive lights and decorations to help visitors and locals celebrate Christmas and the New Year in a joyous way.

The legacy of King Rama IX is also being honoured with images and the use of his Royal colours in many of the displays. The lights are best enjoyed as evening comes and are easily visited via the city’s BTS sky train.

CentralWorld: The largest area of lights can be found outside CentralWorld with the theme “Winter White, the Garden of Happiness”. Gold and silver are the colours of the day and there are many traditional icons of Christmas at CentralWorld including reindeer, stars, and snowflakes and Christmas trees. The most popular display is a cage of corridor of illuminated sunflowers. Other malls and hotels in the Ratchahprasong area have their own trees and colourful lights inside as well as out.

Siam Paragon: Here festive sightseers can enjoy posing for pictures alongside classical Christmas icons such as nutcrackers, presents and Christmas baubles. The cool weather means this is a good time to enjoy the activities in the square outside Paragon and enjoy some of the pictures and images on the screens showing the work of the late King.

EmQaurtier Mall: This mall has its own classy Christmas displays as well as live music in the evenings with local bands and choirs singing festive tunes near the entrance to the SkyTrain. Projections on the wall of the Emporium shopping centre feature pictures of King Rama IX and show some of his achievements.
