BANGKOK, 21 August 2016 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has introduced a temporary permit for street vendors to continue their businesses on Khao San Road.
Chairman of the Bangkok City Council Vallop Suwandee, chaired the meeting on Saturday to discuss the plan to bring order to the street vending business on Khao San Road, which was joined by related agencies and street vendors.
The meeting was aimed at solving many issues affecting the famous road as Mr. Vallop says that the number of foreign tourists has been coming down lately.
He said that one of the causes is the disorderliness of street vendor businesses, which has affected the charm of Khao San Road.
Mr. Vallop stressed that all businesses operating on this road must also comply with the memorandum of cooperation with the BMA and all laws governing the sale of alcoholic beverages and noise limits as well as the employment of foreign workers.
He added that street vendors, who have registered themselves and obtained permits from the Phra Nakhon District Office, will be temporarily allowed to operate on Thursdays and Fridays between 6 p.m. and midnight in the designated areas of the road.
Mr. Vallop said that, if this practice fails to bring order to the road, the arrangement will be cancelled.
