CHON BURI — Operators of the large number of tourist boats that have long crowded the Bali Hai pier in South Pattaya have moved out, complying with the National Council for Peace and Order’s instructions to tidy up the area and improve the image of the resort town.

Sub-Lt Suwit Laklang, leader of a peace-keeping platoon of the 21st Infantry Regiment, said that with the boats gone the area around Bali Hai pier looked clean and spacious, giving a pleasurable view of Pattaya Bay.

Pattya City officials have also been instructed to prohibit vendors from moving in their push carts and selling  goods on the footpath.

Parking in the area will also be re-organised, Sub-Lt Suwit said.

Adirek Maimongkol, a senior official acting for Bang Lamung district chief, said he was satisfied with the re-organisation order and the cooperation by tourist boat operators.

City officials have also asked operators of restaurants which have encroached on public land in the area to move out within 45 days.

A notice was put up in front of some restaurants on Wednesday by city officials.
