The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Samut Songkram Office in cooperation with the local public and private sectors have joined forces to stage the 19th Mae Klong Pla Too and local food festival. This year, the event will take place from 16-25 December, 2016.

During the event, the fairgoers can enjoy a special exhibition about mackerel (Pla Too in Thai) for which Mae Klong is renowned in Thailand. People will be able to taste a variety of dishes made from ‘Pla Too’, and learn about the many varieties of the fish found in the seas off Samut Songkram.  The event will this year have the theme ‘Sufficiency Living’.

It is at this time of the year that schools of mature mackerel are abundant in this region of the Gulf of Thailand. This fish is tasty and nutritious and used in a wide variety of local dishes.

Other activities at the Mae Klong Pla Too Festival include demonstrations of traditional way of life of Mae Klong people who mainly earn a living from fishing and coconut farming. There is also an exhibition about Mae Klong’s charming attractions; a photo exhibition on ‘Coconut is Life’ as well as health-related activities, music and concerts, cultural performances and cooking demonstrations and competitions.

There is also the chance to buy souvenirs, handicrafts and local products. Many of the funds raised as part of this event will go to support the local community.
