No New Year’s party on Khaosan Road, say business operators

Despite being Bangkok’s most famous place to party, there won’t be a New Year’s celebration on Khaosan Road this year.

Sanga Ruengwattakul, Adviser to the Khaosan Road Business Association, said that the business operators have voted not to hold the Loy Krathong and New Year’s Eve parties this year in order to show respect for the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away on Oct. 13.

Sagna said that, as the mourning period is coming to an end on Nov. 14, the operators will see if the ban on loud music in public places will be lifted, Sanook reported.

Khaosan Road is among the most popular places in Bangkok to celebrate New Year’s Eve, with loud music that has, in the past, turned the streets into a dance floor in the hours leading up to the public countdown to the new year.
